Outings/Visits General

Year 5 pupils spent the day at Westminster Abbey on a cross-curricular trip for Maths and RSP. They were given a guided tour, took part in a creative workshop and did a Maths trail.

Westminster Abbey is one of the world’s greatest churches and is a designated World Heritage Site. The coronation of Kings and Queens has taken place here since 1066, and many of the nation’s Kings and Queens are buried in the Abbey. Principal among them is St Edward the Confessor, King of England from 1042 to 1066, whose shrine is at the heart of the Abbey. Also buried or memorialised there are over 3,000 great men and women from almost every century of these islands’ history: statesmen and politicians, lawyers, warriors, clerics, writers, artists and musicians. Many royal marriages have taken place at the Abbey, including Henry VIII’s to Catherine of Aragon, the Queen to the Duke of Edinburgh, and Prince William married Catherine Middleton here in 2011. Most recently the State Funeral of HM Queen Elizabeth II was held here on 19 September 2022.
