Last week, Latymer Prep celebrated an immersive Languages Week, giving pupils a fantastic opportunity to explore the world's languages. The event was based around the new linguistic programme, World of Languages, Languages of the World (WoLLoW) which we will be introducing for Year 3 starting in September 2026.
This program, created by experienced language teachers, teaches children about the history, culture, and development of all languages - emphasizing how understanding grammar patterns, uses of script, and linguistic diversity fundamentally shapes their view of the world.
The children were 'off-timetable' for 2 days giving pupils and staff the opportunity to explore how languages work, how they convey meaning, and how they can be deciphered. We shared and celebrated pupils’ own linguistic knowledge and history, generating greater awareness of diversity and encouraging pupils to value and develop their own heritage languages in the future. Through games, songs, code-breaking, and more pupils learned about the different ways we communicate with each other, including through non-verbal language.
Overall the event was a great success and encouraged pupils to see the long-term value in language study.
