In the run-up to World Book Day, Latymer Prep was buzzing with excitement as pupils took part in a series of literary events designed to celebrate the joy of reading.
Our House Captains, Deputies, and a team of enthusiastic book lovers led the way by running our annual Scholastic Book Fair. Pupils had the opportunity to browse and purchase new books while earning 'Scholastic Rewards'—points that help fund new additions to our School Library.
This term, pupils have also been actively participating in our Book Bingo challenge. By reading books across different genres, they earn stamps on their Bingo Cards, which can be exchanged for valuable House Points at the end of term. Mariesa, our dedicated librarian, shared her enthusiasm: "I’ve loved seeing the children spread their reading wings into different genres and being pleasantly surprised at what they find there!"
Adding to the excitement, we were thrilled to host two esteemed authors. Ramzee, a London-based writer and illustrator known for his work with Marvel, Scholastic, and Rebellion, visited to discuss his debut novel, The Cheat Book. We also welcomed Zohra Nabi, author of the best-selling The Kingdom Over the Sea and The City Beyond the Stars, who captivated pupils with her storytelling insights.
The celebrations culminated on World Book Day itself, Friday 7th March, when pupils came dressed as their favourite book characters for the much-anticipated annual Dress-Up Day Parade. A special Book-Themed Lunch and a variety of literary activities in the Library ensured a fitting end to a fantastic celebration of books and reading!
